General information
Novgorod State University is the leading regional school offering wide range of graduate and postgraduate programmes in almost fields of medicine, natural sciences, engineering, humanities etc.

The first school in Novgorod was set up by Grand prince Yaroslav the Wise in the year of 1030. The academic traditions of Novgorod State University go back to the Middle Ages. The University now comprises five Institutes (Institute of Medical Education, Institute of Humanities, Institute of Continuous Pedagogical Education, Institute of Economics and Public Administration, Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources), four engineering faculties and five colleges of vocational education. There are more than 70 research laboratories and scientific centers. The University has become a leading regional center of education and science.

The University employs 1000 members including 551 doctors of science and 37 members of The Russian Academy of Sciences, The Russian Academy of Medical Sciences, The Petrovskaya Academy, The Engineering Academy. Four professors of the university have the title of Merited Scientist of The Russian Federation.

The University actively collaborates with foreign universities and other schools of higher education. NovSU has close contacts with universities and colleges of the USA, Great Britain, Sweden, Germany, Hungary, Norway, France, Poland, Iceland, Finland, and other countries.

The University Internet Center is one of the most rapidly developing structures in NovSU. Each student can use Internet facilities for research and communication.

University Education
The University offers Bachelor, Master and Doctoral degree programs. All academic programs at all levels are based on curricula determined by the University. Instruction is carried out through lectures, seminars and practical assignments.

All coursework at the University is conducted in Russian. For students without previous formal Russian study, the University provides an intensive preparatory year through its Department of Russian as a Foreign Language. After completing the preparatory program, students receive a certificate and may continue their studies at NovSU or any other Russian University.

Department of International Students
More than 17.000 students study at Novgorod State University, including international students from Morocco, Pakistan, Peru, Nepal, Egypt, Cameroon, Finland, USA, and other countries.

Department of Russian as a Foreign Language
Short- and long-term courses of business and colloquial Russian are available to all interested persons.
One may choose between group and individual studies and compose an individual program based on personal interests. We offer courses on Russian Culture, Art, Music, History, Holidays etc.
